Sounds like you've come up with some good strategies to deal with it in the future. I'm so not computer savvy. I don't know what I would do if that happened to me except maybe assume the fetal position and cry like a colicky baby.

LOL, Micki! I'm having no major breakdowns, or even minor ones. I just consider it a lesson.

1. It's nobody's fault except mine. I clicked the delete button.

2. The support team said that they don't do individual backups. Sorry. However, they are working on it and that feature should be available by next week.

3. There's nothing that I can do about it, so I just have to accept it and move on, which is what I have done. The sun is still shining, the birds are still singing, Hobbs is still barking, and all is right with the world. :-)

4. I was able to upgrade to Wordpress 2.1.3 with no worries about compatibility or losing data! I already lost it all! LOL!!!

5. I'm happy to be back up and running and having you folks continue to visit with but a small hiccup.

6. I installed a plugin that will allow me to backup the database at the click of a button and have the data emailed to me.

7. I added a reminder to Microshaft Outlook to remind me to back up my database every 4 days. Once bitten, twice shy!

OK Paul, sending major good thoughts your way that you recover more than you're hoping for. I know you're handling this well, because that is the type of person you are; and that's why I count you among my dearest friends. I would be having some sort of breakdown and probably giving you a call for support. Your photo for this post proves how you always look on the sunny side of things.

You are taking it much better than I would, good for you! I really hope you get it back, I think you had a lot of interesting discussions worth saving.

More importantly is to get those images backed up! I nearly had a heart attack when I was trying to get a new internal hard drive installed and mistakingly did some tweak that caused my image drive to be unreadable. I had backed up maybe 85% of that drive, and even a 15% image loss was causing me some serious grief. Thankfully after parting with some cash for restoration software, I was able to retreive the lost images.

Backups should be a religion for photographers.

Laurie: It didn't happen on my PC, fortunately. The blog is hosted by eleven2.com. They have a database admin screen and it some buttons on it that are a bit close together, one of which is 'drop database'. Mind you, for such a significant event there is not even a confirmation dialog: "Are you sure that you want to drop your database and loose all of your data?"!!!

As a software developer, I see this as unconscionable development. The user should always have a chance to prevent conking themselves over the head with an anvil! :-)

I would make two improvements to the screen: 1. Move the drop database button to a far off corner, or separate screen. 2: Add a confirmation dialog!

I hate when that happens. It happens to me mainly because I am a computer phobic techno boob and don't know what I am doing, at least before I got my Mac. Now I don't seem to mess up when trying to do stuff so much. Is it because I am smarter now? Or is it because the Mac is idiot proof? I like to think I'm smarter now. SO if it's because the mac is idiot proof, shhhhh don't tell me just let me live in my fantasy world.

Those tulips are gorgeous. Lucky you that they are blooming outside. Ours haven't had the chance to emerge yet. It seems that spring has yet to come to these parts. We may get snow this weekend!!!

Thanks, guys. It's nothing to get all worked up about. It's too bad that they are gone, but I learned a lesson. Right now, I'm am backing up my images from my hard drive that I've been putting of doing for a while. Hopefully, I've learned something!

Normally, I knock on wood twice, spit to my left, blink my left eye and hang upside down. It seems to make things work, right Thomas? Hehe, just kidding man :).

Sad to hear Paul, hopefully, they'll be back up and all that :)

Argh! Really sorry to hear / see that. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can restore your database (knock, knock on wood!). At least all those posts that you wrote since I visited last time..;-)
