Well, it’s been a while since I’ve shown a picture of a critter. Each morning, before going to work, I like to sit and read next to one of the windows in my living room. From there I can see the critters in the backyard. They’re a pleasure to watch and are sometimes quite noisy, but fun to hear nonetheless.

Recently, I changed bird foods and what a difference that made! I bought some birdseed that was ‘chock full of bugs’. It had freeze dried meal worms. You’d think that I put some type of ambrosia out there! They just can’t get enough of it. I only bought a 5 pound bag and in a space of about 3 days; it’s almost gone! I’ve started to mix it with hefty amounts of black oil sunflower seeds!
Anyway, just something light and fun today.

I love both the shots….The green is gorgeous!!!
isnt that the Mourning Dove?
Paul, I think I’ll try the mealy mix. A few goldfinches are wiping out my black-oil sunflower seeds, but I’ve not tried any mix with bugs yet. Stay tuned. What a crisp, clear picture! What type of bird is this? I love its wing markings!
Bonnie: That meal mix is great! I’m getting a couple of Oriels, a woodpecker, and other birds that I’ve not seen before.
Intern/Bonnie: That is a Mourning Dove. I simply call them pigeons! They are the most easily frightened bird that I have ever seen and they eat a LOT. Usually the feeder is so full of them that none of the other birds can eat, or have to eat from the ground. They like to camp out on the feeder too.
I will occasionally let Hobbs out to chase them away.
(That’s a sinister grin!)
I can just see that mourning dove cringing and saying “I AM NOT A PIGEON!”
Thanks for sharing some of your backyard friends.
Try a small water feature if you want to draw the tweeters. We have a few small fountains in the garden and the birds love them. This time of year they seem to ignore the feeders around here, but oh my, what a cool dip does for them
Amazing pictures !!! I am thinking of adding the squiril one to my desktop background
