Serious business

A view from the office window. Sometimes, when the light is coming up and the birds are coming out for their morning meals, I open my office window, from which I have removed the screen, place my camera in the opening, don the 200-500mm lens, and sit quietly. I enjoy watching the birds come to the feeder and walk around the ground getting their meals.

It is a great reminder to not worry about anything. All will be provided. If I don’t feed them, they’ll get food elsewhere, I know. However, I like to feed them because I consider it an honor to have them in my backyard.

Enjoy your weekend!

  1. You have beautiful visitor!!!! I love cardinals … they frequent even my backyarda lot..and the loud clear whistle is such a big giveaway of their presence.

I actually had to learn the names of backyard birds, because I grew on very different types of birds …except for sparrows which are universal I guess. We had Mynahs … from the Starling family, but it didnt have those spots, so i think they looked more elegant … Lots of crows, here I find more grackle … I dont remember seeing too many golden finches, maybe I didnt notice as much then, but here i see loads of them.

  2. I miss seeing cardinals in my backyard. We don’t have them here, at least I don’t. When we lived in the South for eight years, our backyard oak was filled with cardinals all spring and summer. What a sight! I’ll never forget the first time they flew in. I was speechless. Red against green–it was beautiful, like your picture. (Having a serious case of window envy here – what a great view you have, Paul.)

  3. Wow, a great look at that cardinal. Did you really get that from your office window?

  4. Will: Yep, I got it from the office window. I have removed the screen and in the morning I lift up the window, put on the 200-500mm zoom, and sit quietly while the birds feed.

  5. Your new visitor is an Eastern Towhee, and I haven’t seen one of those since we lived in Tennessee. I’m so jealous. Great catches of all your feathered friends!!

  6. Looks like you have a pretty good variety of visitors to your yard Paul. It can be so relaxing just to sit and watch them come in. I find it is a great stress reliever.
