Ouch!

I happened to look up as I was crossing through the living room and saw this imprint. That had to hurt! I hope the the bird was alright. I’m pretty sure that it was dazed!

We have a large picture window in our bathroom and the birds are always flying into it. I’m going to get some decals to put on it to lesson the chance of that happening; however, I didn’t think that they would run into these windows, but, there are several times when the birds are feeding that one of the neighborhood cats comes stalking along. Then, they fly away with reckless abandon. Perhaps this was one of those times.

This particular window is about 12 feet off of the ground. The birds usually fly to the woods, which is in the opposite direction, but sometimes towards the house, I guess. If it was aiming for the roof, it missed by a long shot!

  1. Paul – decals are very limited in their effectiveness. I have a few of them on my windows and still get smacks on occasion. So I think I am going to get these;

  2. Ooh! Ouch! Poor bird! Maybe he saw a reflection of trees and though he was flying into the woods.

  3. I had a little goldfinch hit the window two weeks ago (it happens a lot here, too.) He hit hard and was very stunned. I got to hold him in my hand for 20 minutes while he perched on my finger. It was a cold and windy day, so I think he enjoyed the warmth. He flew off just like that when one of my daughters came in for a closer look. Then last week the yard was full of robins. They usually don’t come around until January, so I think it’s going to be a cold winter this year. Anyway, one hit the kitchen window so hard that there were tummy feathers stuck in a nice bunch. I looked all over but never found the bird, so I guess he was OK after all. Just as well, not sure I could warm a big robin up in my little hands. Your impression on the bathroom window is something I’ve never seen on our windows, though. Wow!

  4. Wow, what an imprint. Reminds me of that funny windex commercial. As long as you weren’t scraping bird off the floor, it’s probably ok.

  5. Only the heart sets how high a bird flies…

  6. My goodness, those look like wing impressions… what was it, a condor?

    I suspect he’s OK.

  7. I think you could probably send this photo to the Windex Corp and maybe even get yourself a year supply of their product for allowing them to use this image.

  8. That’s a pretty impressive picture! I feel some pity for the bird, though. If it was trying to escape from a cat or so, it will most likely not have made it. They are usually stunned after such an impact.
