Tony working on his summer reading!
I kind of like this picture because it shows Tony working on his summer reading very diligently!
More than that, though, I kind of like the disembodied hand. It looks like Thing, from the Adams Family. If you remember the Adams Family, then surely, you’ll remember Thing.
Anyway, I didn’t have much to talk about today except about how slowly things are going in the blogsphere. Even some of the more prolific posters are not posting so much! I wonder what causes the slow-down. Probably more opportunity to be outside, rather than at the computer. Less time spent photographing, because of the heat, or who knows what else!
It’s hard to believe that school will start in about another 5 weeks. We moved Tony from public school to an independent school and that has been quite a ordeal. The admissions process was pretty long, but certainly worth it in the end. I think that he’ll be happy there. The curriculum is certainly more challenging; also, the class sizes are much smaller (6 – 15), instead of the 30+ that he had in public school.
On the basketball front, we are headed to West Virgina for a ‘Showcase’ tournament. This is where some of the most competitive teams come to compete. We leave on Sunday, drive to Morgantown, WV (yeah, I know! West Virginia!), then do the basketball thing on Monday and Tuesday, then it’s back home on Wednesday. There seems to always be something going on with basketball.
I’ll be taking my camera to WV, as well be nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, so there should be some scenery.
So, what’s got you busy this summer?
Speaking of busy! Come to think of it, we still need to do some college visits! It’s good that I still don’t have a job right now. I don’t have time to work!!! I do have an interview, though, at 2:00 PM, in about 55 minutes. It’s for an out of town job, but, you gotta do what you gotta do!

Hi Paul,
What’s got me busy this summer? Well, now that summer has finally arrived on the Oregon coast, it’s time to start the annual home repair projects. This summer I am rebuilding a portion of the porch roof. Since the house was built in the late 1800s, nothing is square and every pieces of wood need to be custom cut! At least I can take a more laid back approach; if I want to work on the house for a couple of hours, who’s going to fire me. This retirement “job” does have a few perks!
What a nice couple of giggles from the shot of Tony.
Like you, I have mulled over the reason for so few postings and chalked it up to many of the same reasons you gave. I still think that the incredible intensity of material posted during SoFoBoMo burned a few people out a tad. I know that in a couple of weeks, I won’t have much time to post when we move into high gear with our move.
Good luck with the interview. Here’s hoping it goes the way you want it to—whatever that may be.
@Steve: Sounds like you have a summer full of work. Cutting all of those individual pieces sounds like work! You’d better make sure that you make the correct un-square cuts!
@Anita: I think that the interview went well. We’ll see. If I get the offer, then I guess that you’ll be seeing a lot of pictures from the Charleston area!
We’ll see. I’d probably have to agree that SoFoBoMo did its own damage, too. Good luck on your move. Say hello to Bitchin’ Betty for me!
I guess its the general summer lazyness and vacation time – although I have to admit, that I haven’t gotten that far (yet!). But I certainly enjoy those quieter times even at work. Makes one soo much more productive….
Public school – private school.. Hm, that seems something more typical for the education system in the US. Here in Europe (at least in Sweden and Germany) almost everybody goes to public schools. Although they come in different grades – at least they’re all free. But we certainly also have the problem with oversized classes. 6-15 pupils per class sounds phantastic!
First off…Good luck with the job search.
As far as being absent from the blogosphere, I have taken a little break while my soon was home on leave for the month of June and the first week of July. He is back in GA now.
It was a very busy June too with graduations, and birthdays and all that goes along with that.
I will not be posting or commenting as often as I used to, there just isn’t enough time. We have too many projects this summer to attend to.
Yet another fly in the ointment is the cost of gas. I have to consider that carefully before I load up my gear, jump in the car and hit the road in search of photos. It’s a shame that it has made such an impact on my shooting but living in suburbia, it is not where I like to shoot. I suppose I have to start looking at things differently in my own backyard to find some inspiration locally.
I love the shot you got of your son “diligently” working on his summer reading. At least the book is open! My youngest has been doing about the same with his, only I haven’t documented it. I don’t think he would ever forgive me if I did!
I have so many good excuses but my favorite current one is picking up Disc Golf again after a 20 year layoff. I am mid obsession and it is taking lots of previous go for a walk or travel the blogosphere time but I am having a blast. Maddy is playing as well which is double cool.
Love THE HAND as well!
