We've had a steady diet of bitter cold this winter sprinkled with regular little 2-4 inch snowstorms every few days...none adding up to the "big one" yet but I am sure it will come!

Hobbs looks so cute covered snow! I love it!

Our winter blast in December faded and left us with a warm January here near the base of the Sierra Nevadas in California. I'm not complaining, mind you. Folks who have lived here for many years tell us hard winters come and go over time and that we should count our blessings when we get to enjoy a mild one.

Well, according to the FMI observations from yesterday, half of Finland had less that 10 cm (4 inch) of snow, and even in Lapland there was only half a meter snow in most places. But during last night we got 5-10 cm more snow here in the Helsinki region, so it feels now more like winter.

Meters of snow - that sounds more like Norway where the hills stop the moist air from the Atlantic and it falls down as snow. We get only the remains...

@JH: I would think that Finland would have snow on the ground measured in meters!

Your 5 cm of snow would be a lot now here in Helsinki - currently we have perhaps 1 cm on the ground. It has been a strange winter (very little snow is just one example), but this may be about to change if weather forecasts are to be trusted. I hope we'll finally return to normal Finnish winter.
