Snow?!!! But it’s March!

Well, they say that March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb. Perhaps they, where ‘they’ are, were right. In Charlotte it rained, almost nonstop, the entire weekend. The forecast called for there to be between 3 – 5 inches (8 – 13 cm) overnight. The last time that snow was forecast for Charlotte, I thought “fooey!” It’s not gonna snow. I awoke the next morning to a couple of inches of snow and had to stay in Charlotte and miss a day of work in Charleston.
Well, having learned my lesson, today I decided to heed the weatherman’s warning, and high-tailed it out of there at about 4:00 PM and head south for warmer climes! By the time that I got about 40 miles away from home, it starting snowing quite readily. I called my wife and told her that it was on the way. She thought that I was going to turn around and return, but I had to disappoint her. I continued on south. As I got closer to Charleston, the temperature started to climb. When I left Charlotte it was 34 degrees F (1 C). When I arrived in Charleston, it was a ‘pleasant’ 42 degrees and windy.
They’ve since updated the forecast to call for 4 – 6 inches of snow! Looks like there won’t be any school tomorrow for Tony. I’m sure that he’ll be very disappointed!
We got our first snowfall of the winter 2008-09 season, too. It’s COLD…only 29 for a high tomorrow and 14 tonight. Too cold for this gal. Luckily classes are canceled here as well. Stay warm.
It’s a good thing (I guess) that you got out early. On the other hand, you could have joined Tony in a “snow day”.
We have been warned that we could easily get snow in March and even as late as end of April. Thank goodness it doesn’t stay on the ground for weeks at a time.
@Anita: I would have loved to stay and play, but unfortunately, I had to go. I know that Hobbs and I would have been romping around the neighborhood. I with the camera, he with his nose. It’s a good thing that I left because the temperature didn’t get above freezing and it dropped to 14 last night, so the roads, though passable, are still kind of dicey. I don’t like dicey!
@Micki: I’m warm.
I’m in Charleston, where it is a balmy 26 degrees this morning … no snow!
And I thought it’s only us. But apparently winter has a real grip this year all over the place.
Nice avatars by the way! Since when do you have those? Seems as if I’ve missed something…
@Thomas: I just added them the other day. I thought that they added a little bit ‘personality’ to the posts. Better go sign up for yours right away, so we can see your ‘face’ in the place! Go to: http://en.gravatar.com/
Wow, surprised it is hitting you that far South. Snow for the most part missed us up here, but it has been blastin cold here with the wind.
