A tale of two cities

Might as well chill!
OK. Last week, I placed an order to Freestyle Photographic Supplies. I ordered some darkroom chemicals, etc, to allow me to develop my film. As I had ordered from them before, they had my name and address in the computer. I specifically asked to have the package delivered to Summerville, SC, NOT Charlotte, as I figured it would arrive before I left for Charlotte on Friday. No problem.
As it was late Friday when I ordered, I received a shipment notification on Saturday morning saying that the package would be shipped on Tuesday, as Monday was a holiday … to, you guessed it, Charlotte! Curses! So, I replied to the shipping notice e-mail and told them that they had shipped to the wrong address, but that I would pick it up in Charlotte. They apologized and rerouted the package. Well, I thought, now I will get it on Thursday, that’s cool. Nope. The package was already on the truck and headed for Charlotte. It arrived there today and was promptly rerouted. Curses again! Now it is scheduled to arrive on Saturday … guess where I’ll be? Charlotte! The package will be in Summerville!
Now, I’ll have to wait until Monday to get the package as the office will be closed by the time that I return on Sunday evening. I’ll pick it up on Monday morning and have to wait all day to get back to it! Oh, woe is me!
Oh well, that’s what happens when you live in two cities! Am I being taught more about patience?! LOL!
Lol, you are either getting a patience lesson or a lesson on the efficiency of modern mail and package delivery….Hope you get your supplies soon
A Tale of Two Cities and a sad tale it is. I guess someone wasn’t listening when you told them to ship it to Summerville. I know it will worth the wait. It would be fun to watch you rip open that package.
Sounds a bit like when I bought a used camera that was in Portland and it got in early and the tracking said “out for delivery”. Well the driver must of lover looked it and left it on his truck with some pickups. It wound up being shipped back to Oakland, CA and the back to Vegas again. Finally got here the day before I left for a week in Death Valley. Apparently they don’t need two cites to get it fouled up.
I have found Freestyle to be one of the more friendly photo retailers out the. If you get tried of the developing part (which I doubt) they also have wonderful mailers for B&W 120 film. A bit expensive, but you get developing, scanning and a contact sheet in the deal. Enjoy this new/old part of the photography process.
That stinks, but, it will be sssoooooo worth the wait. In the meantime, are your “training” with your reels?
Yea, making changes to standard delivery instructions is like trying to get a special order hamburger via the drive-through window of most fast food chains…good luck!
Picking it up Monday morning will give you all week to enjoy…but it’ll make for a long Monday at work.
@Steve: I think that once I get back into developing my own, that there is no way that I’ll be able to send them out and wait for their return. Also, as I have a scanner, no way am I going to pay someone to do it for me.
@Tom: I don’t have the reels; they are in the shipment.
I remember doing it when I used 35mm film, though. I’d take a film strip, close my eyes, and practice rolling it onto the reel until I could to it with on problem at all. Then, when I got into the darkroom, it was a piece of cake. I’ll have to do it again, though. It has been a while!
@Earl: Yeah! I’ve learned my lesson. No more rerouting! Yes. It will be a long day at work on Monday.
What reels and tank did you get?
Some swear by the Stainless steel but I much perfer the Peterson plastic ones.
Funny, I still can spool film on a reel in the darkroom or a changing bag without closing my eyes from all the pratice.
@Tom: I got plastic reels. It’s what I trained on. I’ve never used stainless steel ones. I had heard, back in the day, that they were pretty difficult to get right. The plastic ones were a breeze! Come to think of it, I have a changing bag at home from my 4×5 film days. I could use it to load my film. I’ll have to bring it back with me.
Great. I’ll be looking forward to hearing all about it on Monday night!
I bet you’ll be back to 4×5 in no time.
Wishing you a great and safe weekend.
Tom
I use plastic reels myself. I was weaned on Kinderman stainless steel, and I swore and (still) swear by them. But, alas, when I rebuilt the darkroom I couldn’t find them anywhere. So I went with Patterson plastic and I do like them.
Paul, my cuz sent me a Jobo 2300 and a bunch of stuff including some Hewes SS reels said to be on par with Kinderman. Would you like a couple? Also, did Kinderman have their label anywhere? I have a few exactly like the Hewes but not name stamped?
