Nope! It’s not beach front property … yet!
The rain started at about 4:00 PM. It’s now 9:00 PM and it continues. This is the lowcountry, so things don’t drain so well, but I’ve never seen it like this. The water in the parking lot is about 10 – 12 inches deep. The street, in front of my apartment cannot be seen, yet, people are still driving down it. Surprisingly few people have gotten stuck, but some have! Each time that a car passes successfully, the waves roll almost up to my patio! Normally, the sound of waves is comforting, but some reason, tonight they are not.

I had wanted to take some photos this evening, but as it was raining so hard, I decided to come home. Little did I know that the rain would offer an opportunity right at my doorstep … almost literally. This is a shot of the landscaping that is about 4 feet from my apartment. Lovely, isn’t it? I hope that it stops raining soon!

Uh, oh! I just heard thunder and saw lighting! Hey! How about that D300 high ISO performance! ISO 3200. Sweet!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Paul, remember, women and children first!
@Earl: LOL! Well, I thought that I saw some animals walking two-by-two and an old guy with a boat a couple of streets over, but it could have been my imagination!
Reminds me of some of what we saw in Houston. Now here in Central California we’ve had 5″ all year.
Oh, that’s an awful lots of water…. You will not have a problem with ground water levels the coming months.
Oh dear, here in Austria we had it the last two weeks. There was flooding in many parts of the country. Personally I was not affected in any way (other than that I needed to make some rain images for my blog), but I can feel with you. Good luck!
During our visits to Charleston, we often talked to locals about the meaning of the term “low country”. They described scenes similar to the ones you’ve shown here (I love the one of the car plowing through water). But we never actually got to experience it (good thing, I guess). Man, that’s a lot of water. Maybe I should stop complaining about a little sogginess here in the northeast! Stay dry, Paul.
So that is where all the Seattle rain went.
@Ray: LOL! Yeah, I guess so. You can have it back any time that you want to! Thankfully, this morning it has all flowed back into the Atlantic. For a moment there, I had waterfront property!
You might want to purchase a sump pump just in case!
Its raining in Charlotte today. May be you will also get some action here on weekend
Oh, my, I started reading and was hoping your apartment wasn’t on the ground floor. I am relieved to see by your follow-up comment that the water has receded. I recently saw an article mentioning an increasing el nino weather pattern. Your photo-story has me convinced. We would love to have some of that rain in California, but not all of what you had, thank you. Take care of yourself.
Wonderful photos – and, shall we say, “interesting” weather. But it definately seems to produce some good photo opportunities. Glad that nothing more severe happened…
Wow! That is a scary amount of rain…I hope you have dried out by now.
@Laurie: The next morning it had dried out and looked like nothing had happened, well except for the pine needles that are used for landscaping being scattered everywhere except around the plants!
