My favorite … so far

Of the 4 rolls of film that I’ve developed so far, this picture is my favorite of them. I visit it often and think about why I like it, but I’ve not come up with a definitive answer just yet. It just speaks to me. I remember looking down and seeing this little boy and taking the picture, but don’t remember any of my thoughts related to it … perhaps there were none.

In looking at the picture, I just keep coming back to the seemingly serene look on his face and the obvious chaos that is surrounding him. Perhaps he is calm because he feels confident in his mother’s grasp. Perhaps he lives in this area and this is normal for him. I’m not sure. I just enjoy looking at it.

I may yet have another favorite, as I have two more rolls to process… Does this photo say anything to you? Oh, BTW, that yahoo to the right with the camera bag, Tom again! :-)

  1. That yahoo is all over the place! LOL

Being the man I am, my first point of focus was the woman’s tights. After my eyes adjusted I started to roam around and noticed the boy. The image is busy, what you would expect in NYC. He does have a grip of his mothers hand or maybe she has a tight grip on him. His clothing catch my attention as they are very much like a fireman’s coat. This image speaks to me of the chaos and noise of the city life.

I, like Monte, took a few moments to notice the boy. My eyes were first drawned to those wearing white, then the women’s rear (I’m a guy too) and finally to the boy–but I didn’t linger long on him initially. While I find him interesting, I feel he’s overpowered by the rest of the photo. Maybe I’m missing that energy and thoughts you felt/had when you took this shot. I do like it but perhaps not for the same reasons. :-)

I would not have noticed the rear if you two hadn’t brought it up, lol. The little boy looks much like I would expect to look myself in all that people-crammed space–dazed. And his shirt is very reminiscent of a fireman’s, indeed.

@Earl and Monte: Well, it’s rather difficult not to notice such things! :-) There was this type of chaos, and clothing everywhere.

Paul, you have definitely captured the hectic pace of a city. I made the visit to Seattle today and your recent images came to mind on the ferry ride home back to the less crowded space of the peninsula. I think the one from ‘So many images. So many thoughts.’ is my favorite so far as it brings my focus to one person in the midst of chaos. Great stuff and I am not sure I could handle it as well.

Well, I don’t know what it says about me but I noticed the boy long before I noticed the woman’s tights. Great image and tonality.
