How to turn off WordPress blog snapshots!

I’m starting to like this place

I know that I’m not alone in this. I’ve seen many people talk about this. Some even refuse to visit blogs using Snapshot. Personally, I find it quite annoying. Anyway, here’s how you can do it:

End-users can turn off the functionality on their (client) end: Just click the Options (cog-wheel) icon in the upper right corner of the Snap Shot and disable for “this site” or “all sites”.

I’ve tried it and it works. I would imagine that this would be a cookie-based setting, so you’d have to do with with each browser that you use. A small price to pay to get rid of those annoying little pop-up beasties!

Paul, you are definitely not alone with your aversion. These snapshots could be an added feature in the right place, but in the most places I found them they are a mere annoyance in a big number. And it’s distracting if you have to concentrate on your mouse position instead of the text or image. So thanks for the tip how to resolve it on the users side. The only drawback of this is that it might not work for somebody like me who is killing all cookies beyond a selection when exiting the browser (you know those Europeans: crazy about the protection of personal data…)

Thanks for this tip Paul. I absolutely hate snapshots. Maybe if they see more and more people activating the cookie, they will start to get the hint.

why don’t you just block the sites from which the snapshot comes?

    Paul,
I just started blogging and was not happy about the Snaps either.
Here is a blog entry to turn it off Snaps in your blog settings on your site so the end user doesn’t have to deal with it at all.
