It was my desire to make it to the other side of town this weekend, but it was so windy and cold that I decided to skip it.
This morning, I awoke, checked the iPhone to see what the morning’s weather would bring. To my surprise and happiness, there was an non-precipitation warning: Dense Fog Advisory. Well, I do have this fog fetish, you know.
I got up, gave a look out the window, saw lots of fog, but didn’t get too happy, yet. I know how flaky fog can be. Sometimes it just settles in patches.

When I took Mr. Hobbs out to do his business, I noticed that this was not patchy. It was good and thick, like pea soup, as they say … just the way that I like it. I let Hobbs finish, then took him back in, grabbed my D300 and tripod, and went to the park. It was around 6:45 AM or so. I knew that I couldn’t let myself get totally into it or I would be late for work. So, I had to stay aware of the time.
It takes slightly less than 10 minutes to get the park. I was listening to music on the way down, but when I got into the park, I had to turn the music off. It just seemed ‘wrong’ somehow to be listening to the music amongst the trees and the fog. A huge grin spread across my face.
I parked, got out the gear, and set about having a good time. Before I knew it, it was 7:35 AM and I was just getting ‘warmed up’ and into the flow, but I had to leave … well, maybe a few more shots, which turned into another 10 minutes.
Finally, I was able to pull myself away, go home, and get ready for work. It’s a good thing that I had a 9:30 meeting and that I had planned to go into the office instead of working from home or else, I might have been distracted a bit more. LOL.

Good work, Paul
It is great how life sometimes conspires to energize our very being without making us late for work. Thanks!

Thanks, Robert! I would have happily been late for work to spend a few more minutes (hours!) shooting.
I love a good thick fog – the quiet is absolutely intense in fog; you were right to turn the music off in order to fully appreciate it. But I like fog that flows in patches as well and the ground fog I sometimes have the joy of seeing in Nebraska. I once saw a bobcat disappear into the ground fog near the Blue River in Nebraska – that was almost 40 years ago and the image sticks with me.
Lovely shot, by the way, thanks for posting it!

John: it seems like an automatic thing to do, turning down the radio when entering the park. It’s kind of like walking into a library. It demands quiet.
What a great image that was, to see a bobcat disappearing into the fog. I can understand why it sticks with you.
I have the same fetish! That was one of the pluses of living in Ohio as we have very little of it our here along the Front Range. It’s morning like that where I can get so wrapped up that I forget about a ton of stuff. I get back to the car I then realize my pants and shoes are wet and muddy. And, that dang work sure does mess up some good things. Meetings? Humbug! We’re talking lilies on the fog here!

Monte: i keep trying to get those folks at Bank of America to understand the importance of photography over meetings, but they are pretty attached to their meetings!
Sadly you are right, it seems most of corporate America is attached to their meetings.

It’s lovely to see daffodils in a slightly different context, they are so yellow and shiny and you see them so often with striking blue skies – you’ve done something different, showing them in the foggy woods. It’s lovely.

The fog showed up here today in the afternoon of all times. If it was in the morning, I think I would have been out like you seeing what I could make of it.

Hot diggity. Bring on more of those Lester fog shots. I know we are in for some treats. I love these first two.
