Yep. Texas!
I just got off of the plane from Dallas, TX. I went there last Thursday to visit with my friend, Richard. While I was there, I did mostly visiting. I walked some with another friend of mine, Gordon … but what was distinctly missing was photography. If you’ve been visiting my blog for any amount of time, you know that I’m not shy about saying that I didn’t like Texas as a place to live. I make no bones about it.
However, when I go there, I try to eek out a few photos that are uniquely Texas, iconic if you will. Sometimes I’m successful, other times not. Honestly, it’s hard for me to get motivated to go out and take photos, especially in the Dallas area. Usually this is what I think about when I think about Dallas:
Concrete and traffic
Concrete, traffic, and heat. So, I didn’t even pull out my camera until Sunday, when Richard and I were on the way to watch his daughter’s basketball game. I thought that I’d give the P-510 a shot a sports photography, at which it failed quite miserably, but I still like it. 
While on the way, I took this photo of the traffic on I-635 west bound. One of the main loops around Dallas. When I lived there 8+ years ago, I used to hate to go on this loop. Little has changed except that it is much wider now and stuffed full of traffic – The more things changes … 
Anyway, when we returned from the basketball game, I put the camera away and didn’t take it out again until I got to the airport and was waiting on my flight. I happened to a man getting his shoes shined. Heck! What could be more iconic than a Texan with boots and a cowboy hat. The tie was a real bonus!
Once again, the zoom on the P-510 came in handy. I was able to sit comfortably in my seat and take a number of photos by looking in the rear view finder.
It was a great trip. How could it be anything less when you get to hang out with people that are your good friends? Up next, California in July, then Nebraska in August. Moving! Moving! Moving!
It was a most welcoming sight to see all of the tree tops, rivers, and lakes when arriving back into Charlotte Douglas International Airport today. There’s no place like home!

Love that first image! It’s amazing how much asphalt and concrete we have poured over the years. It’s even more amazing how many hours people spend sitting their vehicles on these roads as they head to/from work. Not how I want to spend my time. Glad you enjoyed yourself and welcome home!

All of my visits to Texas were in the Austin area, and I really liked it. And the people were very friendly. I almost settled there.
