The best time to plan a book is while you’re doing the dishes.
Last year, I was here, there, and everywhere. I was a member of US Air’s Silver Preferred club. I got to use the express lane in the airport, got upgraded to first class about 40% of the time, the rest of the time, was able to board in Zone 1. I got a free luggage (remember when it was all free) allowance, etc. Then, all of that came to a screeching halt at the end of the year. I didn’t fly enough miles to keep my status. Oh well.
I had lots of plans for travel this year, a number of national parks, The Blue Ridge Parkway (again), visiting bloggers, etc; however, it has boiled down to a trip to Mexico, which was great, 2 trips to Ohio, and a third one this Saturday, a trip to Texas. All in all, not a bad travel year. I’ve got one more trip planned to Mexico for Dia de Los Muertos, Day of the dead, or Halloween as we call it. My friend Neils told me that they do it up big in Mexico, so I don’t want to miss. I’m taking my nephew with me. He’s never been out of the country. He just applied for his passport. It should be fun. I’m looking forward to showing him around. I’ll get to flex my Spanish skills. By the time, I will have been taking Spanish for about 10 months. I can speak, now, if I take my time. Most of it is still in ‘translation phase’, though there are a few phrases that are starting to stick. I’m looking forward to doing a lot of photography, walking around, seeing sights, and of course, taking him to sample various bits of Mexican cuisine and culture.
I still desire to visit White Sands National Monument again. I don’t feel that I’m finished with it. I want to take my Mamiya 645 and shoot some film, too. I’ve got about 2 weeks of vacation remaining, one I will use in Mexico. The other, perhaps here and there. I can go to White Sands and still work; all that I need is a bit of wi-fi. Shoot in the morning, working during the day, shoot in the evening. I just need to plan better, put it on the calendar instead of just thinking what I want to do. Then, too, there are The Badlands (Thanks Monte for the reminder), many places in Utah, etc. I’ve got lots of planning to do.
