I was walking in McDowell Nature Preserve and literally almost stepped on this fella. He was just sitting there by the edge of the road and I happened to notice him. I was wondering if he was dead or injured, but he didn’t seem like it. I stopped took a few pictures from a distance and got closer and closer and closer and he didn’t move. Finally, my phone was about 2 inches from his nose and he decided to move his head a little bit, but he didn’t scurry off.

In the end, I took a half dozen pictures or so then continued on my way. Being a reptile, I’m sure that the 60 degree temperature didn’t help him feel like zipping around. It’s supposed to be in the 80s today. Maybe he’ll have a bit more pep in his step!
