iOS 11 has a new feature, well, new to us iPhone users. You can set the phone up to sense when you are moving above a certain speed. If it detects this, it will place your phone in Do Not Disturb mode and will, if enabled, send a text message to anyone who texts you to indicate that you are driving and you’ll respond to them when it’s safe to do so. I have this enabled on my phone. There are three ways that it can be turned on:
1. Connected to a hands-free device in your car
2. As mentioned, through motion
3. Manually, by selecting a button.
Yesterday morning I went to the park for a little bit of a hike on the trails after my normal neighborhood walk. It had been a while since I’d been to the park because I just can’t stand all of the attention and lovin’ that I get from the bugs during the summer. So, when it gets cooler, I return. It’s not that I don’t love them back … well, yeah, it is that!
As I was walking, I took my phone out to take a picture of this fellow and there was the message:
You cannot receive messages while behind the wheel!
I paused, looked behind me to see if I was kicking up dust and leaves, any sign that I may have been speeding through my hike, but there were no signs! But, obviously, I must have been moving at a good clip if the phone thought that I was driving!!! LOL
Well, the message went away promptly and allowed me to use the phone and did not return until I was actually in the car and driving!
Damn! I’m fast!!!
