They say that the early bird gets the worm, and that may be true. Looked at the other way, the early worm gets eaten! Not so good for the worm to be early, right? Well, this is neither about worms nor birds, neither of which I saw this morning when I was stomping around in the snow at a pleasant 13 degrees!
As is becoming normal, at least in fits and starts, I wake up at 3:00 AM, stay awake for a couple of hours, then doze back off for another hour or so. Like Earl and Monte had mentioned on one of Monte’s posts, I have some guidelines: If I wake up before about 4:00 AM, I stay in bed and wait for sleep to return. If it’s after 4:00, I just stay up.
For the past couple of weeks I’d been looking for tickets to go to visit my sister in Akron, OH.
But, Paul! It’s frickin’ winter! Why in the hell would you go visit someone in Ohio in the winter!
~Some really smart person!
Well, that’s a really good question! Because, it’s her 70th birthday and it falls on Groundhog Day, February 2nd. The last time that I went to the big O in the winter time was 5 years ago, for #65. See. I have reasons, milestones, if you will! Anyway, I’ve been seeing prices near $500 from Charlotte. I wasn’t willing to pay that, nor was I willing to drive. So, I told my sister that I’d keep looking and if I could find a reasonable price, I’d come. So, at 3:00 AM, I figured … well, I’m awake, might as well give a quick look at tickets and lo and behold, I found tickets for $115 round trip! Now! To be fair, these are going to Cleveland instead of Akron, and are not direct flights. But, even those flights, yesterday, were $400! Score! I got up right away, booked the ticket, reserved a car, then settled back in for about another hour of sleep. Mission accomplished!
