It's the business side of things that stops me from doing it more often - having to get out there and say "I'm fantastic, look at me, give me your money!" just goes against everything I feel is right. I always thought it was down to being scottish, or british, where boastfulness is the absolute peak of rudeness, and heaven forbid you should ever be confident about something. I wonder how much of these personality traits we are born with, and how much is impressed on us through society. Are you saying you prefer the venue to be filled with smoke?? But weddings and such are for those photographers whose income is dependent on being at ease with others and in large groups. It comes easy for the best of them, but not for a lot of us. I have photographed my wife's (classical) concerts and rehearsals and that was a lot of fun. Difficult, but fun. With the P&S, I sometimes get tired of that infinite depth of field. Give me blur!!! As for the tripod, it's rare that I dislike it, but sometimes it can be annoying, but I'm usually glad that I brought it along. I think that I could photograph bands, if I like their particular type of music. Definitely a love-hate relationship! Same with DSLRs - although I like my point and shoots for their simplicity and light weight, I still don't feel I compose as intently with them.
