I was walking in McDowell Nature Preserve and literally almost stepped on this fella. He was just sitting there by the edge of the road and I happened to notice him. I was wondering if he was dead or injured, but he didn’t seem like it. I stopped took a few pictures from a distance and got closer and closer and closer and he didn’t move. Finally, my phone was about 2 inches from his nose and he decided to…

Well, it was high up, there was a good signal, and no obstructions, really. So, probably a good place to check Facebook or send a tweet … but, if she would have only looked to her left, this is what she would have seen. Need I say more?

For a few years I had a bird feeder and I used to love to sit and watch the birds come and go. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to buy another one and once again enjoy my fine feathered friends. I’d forgotten about the particular seed mix. The one shown here has lots of millet, a seed that blackbirds and sparrows love. I like it because it is somewhat abstract, but shows their activity. Momma comes and feeds them many times per day. She stays quite busy! Whenever I hear them cheeping, I grab my camera, try to get a shot; however, the angle is such that it…

I have a new guest in my house. Well, not exactly “in” my house, but above my front door. It seems as though a family of finches has decided to move in. I noticed momma was putting grass, weeds, twigs, and all of the amenities of home right there above the door. There is a window above the door, allowing light to come in, but granting privacy. I noticed her flying back and forth through out the day, the shelf…
